Not only are his subject matters disturbingly intriguing but so too is his rendering; his varied use of media, building on the initial impetus and layering the readings further.
His mix of cute with eerie or unsettling imagery challenges the viewer in their own perceptions of ‘normal’, ‘attractive’ and ‘comfort’. He arms his conjoined twins, gives them Popeye, tattooed limbs and big, girlie eyes: faux-vulnerability and power.
His skeletal hellions are reminiscent of the surreal dreamscapes of Max Fleisher, unleashed into a nether world of fantastic apparition. Any of these black and white creatures could be chasing Betty Boop like the Old Man of the Mountain or Cab Calloway's spectre. Peters appears to pick up on the disturbing, horror elements to the cutsie Boop cartoons and takes it all one step further into a nightmarescape that's all so compelling.
This is art that is persuasive, forceful and beautiful.
He works on many multi-media materials, found objects and cobbled creations; The video installation cabinet that is 'Miss Content' portrays a cute looking creature with a hook arm and a gun slung over her other shoulder. Look through the keyhole in her chastity belt and you will see a movie.
