This gallery contains some of my favorite Jasinski pieces.
'Are you awake?' was actually created well before Monsters Inc. I love how the monster is as horrified at the discovery as the mother and the little girl. For me, it's the deepened pastels here, the moody colour that transforms the piece.
It's at first, the blue hair of 'turned off'that strikes me and pulls me in, over and over; deep, rich colours with tactile teasing texture.
'Blue devil, red rose' has a cute and tender sinisterness whilst 'don't bug me' calls on the sweet yet disarming attitude of wee folk who shouldn't have developed such assuredness so early.
part of a theme depicting the probable ephermeral delicateness of the super-hero, 'heed the call' suggests a vulnerability to the extraordinary-powered person, a complicated and ambiguous obligation to follow the path one has been chosen to follow.
'Soloman is wise' brings to mind the latent disturbing imagery of a Paula Rego picture; the affection and sinister assumption this painting gives the viewer, tears at the conscience.
'The cookie jar': the ambiguity of childish wonder and horror or pure obliviousness in determination for confection.
