you may know his work... if you have seen the sublime movie 'amelie' then you do - he created the wonderful moving paintings and objects in her bedroom.
i first came across it about 8 years ago in postcard form and quickly fell in love. there is an uncanny, a dreaminess, a disturbing-yet-comforting element to his world where people and animals like people and vegetables like people can co-exist.
his bizarre becomes everyday and his mood is warm, dark, sinistre, sad, beautiful, playful, gorgeous.
this one above may well be my favorite.
i found out today that he illustrates children's books. oh my.
